Count normal seats first
Plan for the people who eat together most days, then think about occasional guests. Measure actual chairs instead of relying only on a headline seating count. Comfortable seating depends on the table shape, leg locations, chair width, and room around it.
Measure the busiest route
Tape out the proposed top where the table will sit. Walk the path from the refrigerator to the sink and from the dining room to the door. The family gathering place works better when it does not become the household's daily obstacle course.

The shape is ready. The choices are yours.
Start with an unfinished foundation and choose the tabletop and finish around your project.

A top for meals and crafts needs a finish and care routine suited to those uses. Follow the tabletop and finish makers' guidance. Use appropriate protection for hot dishes and messy projects rather than assuming any wood finish makes a surface indestructible.
Give everyone a design role
Invite household members to help choose a color sample or compare chair arrangements. Adults should handle tools, heavy lifting, and finishing chemicals appropriately. Being part of the decision can make the result feel shared without turning the build into a rushed group activity.
Plan how the room changes jobs
Keep homework supplies or placemats nearby so the table can return to dinner duty. Consider how much surface needs to stay clear and where chairs go when unused. The project includes the room's habits, not just the furniture dimensions.
Celebrate a table you will use
Take a photo of the finished build and plan the first ordinary dinner. A table does not need a special event to become meaningful. Its value grows as the household returns to the same place day after day.
Your project starts with a base
Four unfinished rubberwood turned legs, prepared pine apron/skirting pieces, and leg-to-apron screws. You supply the top, finish, tools, and suitable top attachments. Assembly instructions are not included; buyers should be comfortable assembling furniture. Legs ship from the supplier and aprons from our shop, so parcels may arrive separately.
